Compliance of UK/International Export Control Directives in collaboration with stakeholders in the Nikon Metrology Group.  To support our multimodal logistics service in a safe and efficient manner, and observe all the relevant regulations to ensure shipments are handled in accordance with the relevant compliances including HMRC customs formalities. 


Export Control

  • Maintain internal export control enquiry logging system.
  • Carry out initial internal end user due diligence check on all export enquiries based on available information internally and externally.
  • Prepare all necessary documentation for license application include datasheet of the item.
  • Process necessary export application to the UK Export Control Organisation (ECO) via SPIRE system.
  • Deal with any RFI from the ECO by communicating with NM internal organisation.
  • Issue a statement of verdict on each evaluation to the internal stake holders after obtaining an approval from ECM (Export Control Manager).
  • Report all activities to ECM periodically.

Logistics for procurement

  • Liaising closely with nominated freight forwarders for imports.
  • Issue an appropriate clearance instruction to the customs agent for import shipments.
  • Deal with settlements of customs dues. (import Duty/Tax)

Logistics service for Finish Products / Parts / Sales & Service 

  • Deal with temporary storage for finished products.
  • Obtain, check & prepare shipping documentations in accordance with incoterms, letter of credit & specific customs requirements at destination.
  • Evaluate best means of transporting goods using road, sea & air to/from NM’s global facilities & customers.
  • Communicate with Freight forwarder / International Courier to arrange the shipment in accordance with export regulation/legislation to the specific transport mode & destination.
  • Communicate well with all the stake holders via e-mail & verbally, in a customer focused manner.
  • Negotiate freight contracts, transportation & handling costs.
  • Support process of freight insurance & administer notice of claim to the carrier.
  • Maintaining all shipping records.

Ancillary responsibilities

  • Build solid working relationships cross functionally and with internal and external stakeholders at various hierarchical levels, ensuring clear timely communication.
  • Build cross functional team relationships across the business to support knowledge around key products & services.
  • Identify areas where margins may be affected and recommend actions to be taken
  • Reviewing existing procedures and highlighting weaknesses or improvement areas for review with their Manager.
  • Work with Quality Dept to investigate cause of shipping/packing related CIR and implement appropriate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Analytical of shipment data and produce performance KPI.



  • Minimum requirements 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths.
  • Experience in dealing with an international trade.


  • A levels or equivalent qualifications
  • Proficient in SPIRE system (UK ECO)
  • Aviation Security (Level A/ CASP)
  • DG trained (Awareness of Hazardous goods)
  • Driving license

The role holder will be expected to travel in the role to meet suppliers and some foreign travel may be necessary.
