Applications Engineer

Job purpose:

To provide expert technical knowledge to support all departments across the company regarding Nikon’s X-ray product portfolio

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Provide technical presales support to the Nikon Metrology sales organization worldwide
  • Run radiographic and computed tomography sample benchmarks to demonstrate the performance of our systems on customers’ samples
  • Promote Nikon Metrology products through customer demonstrations in our Tring office
  • Write and deliver in depth training globally to sales and application engineers;
  • Deliver on-site advanced CT training to customers worldwide
  • Assist the R&D department in improving the quality, functionality and ease-of-use of our systems
  • Support and attend trade shows to promote Nikon Metrology’s products and services
  • Support customer projects from initial enquiry to end sale in order to translate customer requirements’ into concrete solutions
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of X-ray and CT technology by attending conferences, symposia and own research

Ancillary responsibilities:

  • Schedule and work both individually and in a team, whichever is more appropriate, to achieve responsibilities
  • Be good at problem solving and diagnosing in order to ensure the best possible results are being achieved with our CT systems and provide the technical support to customers

Functional competencies:

  • Degree in engineering or science discipline
  • Knowledge of X-ray radiography or computed tomography is desirable
  • Experience of Nikon Metrology (X-tek) X-ray systems, or similar, is preferred but not essential
  • Application Engineer experience is preferred but not essential
  • High degree of IT literacy
  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Time management, ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure
  • Good networking ability
  • Flexible and self-motivated with a hands on approach to problem solving

Working environment/ physical requirements:

  • Flexible working at short notice – i.e customer demonstrations running into afterhours
  • Regular worldwide travel to sales and customer sites
  • Majority of environment based in Tring office
