We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Application Engineer based in Germany


What is your role ?

To plan, manage, install, train, support and document all aspects of Laser Radar projects. Work closely with the sales and application engineering team to understand what is to be delivered and support/provide all activities to ensure the project is delivered on time and with quality. Project engineer will be the application expert for Laser Radar in the automotive sector. The project engineer role will also include performing demo’s at Nikon facilities or at customer sites as required.


What are your key areas of responsibility ?

  • Support development of timing plans and define scope of project.
  • Coordinate kick-off meeting for project to define roles and responsibilities for all parties involved in the project.
  • Coordinate own time and other resources to meet project deadlines and deliverables.
  • Manage all open issues during delivery phase of project (post purchase order).
  • Communication to all parties involved in the project in a timely and professional manner.
  • Raise issues with management in a timely manner.
  • Understanding/competent in programming of robots and support of PLC connections during installation/training/support.
  • Proficient with network protocols and support debugging during installation/support.
  • Configure part programs offline and online for all parts to be measured in Laser Radar cell.
  • Coordinate with customer/on-site engineers to ensure project will move along according to plan.
  • Comply with local safety requirements.
  • Unpacking and calibration of Laser Radar and perform all necessary checks.
  • Configure tooling ball network to meet metrology requirements of measured features.
  • Complete customer validation and buy off procedures onsite for all projects.
  • Provide training to customer on cell functionality.
  • Provide first line support for application issues on metrology cell.
  • Ability to travel 70% of the time to customer facility.
  • Travel will be predominantly within the EU, but some overseas travel required.
  • Working cross functionally with other regions and other departments (engineering, production, customer service).
  • Promoting a good information exchange within these teams.


What are your required qualifications and competencies ?

  • Bachelor or Master degree in technical engineering
  • 3+ years metrology experience
  • 3+ years automotive or aerospace experience
  • Willingness to travel extensively
  • Team player
  • Fluent in English and German
  • Knowledge of GD&T, measurement plans, process capability and inspection software
  • Knowledge and practical experience of metrology, robotics and automation
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD/robot simulation beneficial
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • MS Office experience including MS Project
  • Good listening skills
  • Full DE driving license
  • Proficient with electrical and mechanical setup.
