CMM-Manager v2.3 tuned for intuitive tactile inspection with portable CMMs
Leuven, March 30th, 2009 – Metris releases CMM-Manager 2.3, highly intuitive and task-oriented tactile measurement software for CNC and manual CMMs. CMM‑Manager 2.3 offers various productivity enhancements for users of articulated arms and K-Series Optical CMM systems, ranging from improved user guidance to automatic probe recognition. A single inspection program suitable for manual and automatic CMMs reduces overall programming effort, increases productivity, and makes analysis and reporting consistent.
Software tuned for portable tactile inspection
CMM-Manager’s intuitive user interface makes handheld tactile measurement quick and easy. The software offers numerous time-saving features that overcome the need to run back and forth between test part and laptop. Large intuitive icons and messages displayed in large fonts provide clear guidance and highlight relevant measurement feedback. Operators navigate the software using the control buttons on the measuring arm or the SpaceProbe of K-Series’ Optical CMM.

Quick and easy handheld inspection
Upon starting a measurement job, the probe tip is automatically brought into the CAD coordinate system. CMM-Manager sequentially guides the operator through all features to be measured by graphically highlighting the next feature on the CAD model and indicating probe-to-target distance in real time. When switching between probe tips, manual Metris CMMs avoid human error through automatic probe recognition.
Same program for CNC and manual CMM
Extremely powerful is the fact that inspection programs created for CNC machines can be seamlessly run on manual CMMs, without any program editing. This saves tremendous time because inspection programs – including data acquisition, analysis and reporting – only need to be defined one time. CMM-Manager guarantees consistent measurement results, regardless whether running inspection jobs on CNC machines or handheld measuring devices.
Various enhancements in many areas
CMM-Manager 2.3 features various software enhancements. The software extends its support of probe and probe tip exchange racks for touch trigger and analog scanning probes. CAD import formats now also include STEP and Parasolid, and DMIS import enhancements facilitate the reuse of existing programs.
Finally, CMM-manager 2.3 adds smart reporting features that graphically highlight local geometry using color codes to facilitate data interpretation and decision-making.
