CMM-MANAGER 2.2 supporting Metris CNC and portable CMMs brings cost-effective and shopfloor-ready tactile inspection solution

October 21st, 2008 – Metris (MTRS, Euronext Brussels) releases CMM-Manager 2.2, the first software release of former Integrated Quality, Inc. since acquired by Metris. CMM-Manager 2.2 introduces native support of Metris tactile metrology solutions, including both the CMM range and the handheld tactile solutions. This enables Metris to offer a cost-effective solution for quick
walk-in or one-click CAD measurements. To further facilitate inspection, CMM-Manager integrates a number of smart functions to allow operators to reach higher measurement productivity and consistency.

Cost-effective and efficient tactile inspection yields quick results

Next to the extensive list of supported CNC and manual CMMs, CMM-Manager 2.2 now provides native support of Metris’ broad range of tactile metrology solutions. With this new software release, Metris is able to offer operator-centric and cost-effective CMM solutions that offer quick walk-in and one-click CAD measurement. True click-and-measure capability enables operators to focus on the measurement instead of spending hours on manual programming. CMM-Manager facilitates automation of repetitive inspection tasks, through straightforward teach-in or advanced collision-free path generation directly from CAD.

CMM-Manager

CMM-Manager 2.2 covers the entire family of tactile metrology solutions from Metris. The software interfaces with Metris MCC200 and CC3 CMM controllers to drive Metris LK and C3 CMMs, respectively. Beyond fixed-bed CMMs, the software supports handheld, portable measurement using Metris MCA articulated arm or K-Series Optical CMM.

Operator-centric and hardware-independent

To streamline intuitive manual inspection using handheld Metris or third-party metrology equipment, CMM-Manager 2.2 introduces a wide range of new functions. When a part program is available, the software will actually guide the operator through the test plan: the graphic display automatically zooms in on the target feature while audio feedback indicates how close the probe tip is to the feature. On-screen messages clearly specify what the operator has to do next. This is a perfect example of how part programs developed for CNC measurements can be reused for handheld measurement without any modification, making inspection reports truly independent of the metrology hardware being used.

Handheld metrology operators may face inconsistent data when measuring points along a circumference of a drilled hole at a given distance from the part surface. For such challenging point measurements, CMM-Manager assists the user by automatically triggering a measurement as soon as the probe tip crosses the desired circumference plane. Another smart function is leap frogging, which expands the measuring volume by relocating the arm or optical CMM. In this way, parts that would otherwise never fit into the measurement volume can be inspected using multiple measurement standpoints but a single axis system.

In addition, CMM Manager 2.2 features many more software enhancements for point measurements, freeform surface scanning and report customization.

Overall, CMM-Manager drives nearly all fixed and handheld CMMs, and its intuitive operator guidance increases data consistency and measurement speed.
